God’s Redemption
Story Timeline

God created the heavens and the earth, bringing everything into existence by His word. He made light, land, plants, animals, and people in six days. God saw everything He made and declared it very good.

God created a perfect world and placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He gave them one command: not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When they disobeyed, sin entered the world, bringing death and separation from God.

God saw that the world was filled with evil, so He decided to send a flood to cleanse the earth. Noah was chosen by God to build an ark and save his family and the animals. After the flood, God made a promise never to destroy the earth with a flood again.

God called Abraham to leave his homeland and promised to make him a great nation. Abraham's son Isaac, and his grandson Jacob, continued the covenant, with God reaffirming His promises to each. Joseph, Jacob's son, was sold into slavery but God used him to save his family and many others from famine.

The Israelites lived in Egypt for 400 years and became enslaved by a new Pharaoh who did not know Joseph. The Egyptians forced them into harsh labor, but the Israelites continued to multiply. God watched over His people and began preparing to deliver them from bondage.

God instructed Moses to build the Tabernacle as a special place where He would dwell among His people. The Tabernacle was carefully designed according to God’s commands, showing the importance of holiness and obedience. It became the center of worship and sacrifices for the Israelites during their journey through the wilderness.

After Moses died, God chose Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land of Canaan. God promised Joshua that He would be with him, just as He was with Moses, if Joshua obeyed His commands. Through many battles, God helped Joshua and the Israelites conquer the land and settle among the nations.

The time of the Judges was a period in Israel's history when God raised up leaders to deliver His people from their enemies. The Israelites often turned away from God, but when they cried out for help, He sent judges like Deborah, Gideon, and Samson to rescue them. This cycle of sin, oppression, repentance, and deliverance showed God's faithfulness and mercy.

After a period of judges, Israel demanded a king to be like other nations, leading to the anointing of Saul. Saul started well but disobeyed God, resulting in God choosing David, a man after His own heart, to be the next king. David brought unity and established Jerusalem as the capital, and his son Solomon built the first Temple but later fell into idolatry.

After King Solomon's death, Israel divided into two kingdoms: Israel in the north and Judah in the south. Both kingdoms struggled with idolatry and disobedience, leading to their eventual downfall. God sent prophets to warn them, but the people often ignored God's message.

The people of Israel and Judah were taken into captivity by foreign powers because they turned away from God. Prophets like Jeremiah warned them, but the people did not listen. Despite their exile, God promised to be with them and bring them hope for the future.

After years of exile in Babylon, God led the Israelites back to Jerusalem under the leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah. They rebuilt the temple and city walls, restoring worship and the community's faith. This return marked a new beginning for God's people as they renewed their covenant with Him.

After the prophet Malachi, God did not send new prophetic messages to Israel for about 400 years. This period is often called the '400 years of silence.' The people waited in hope for the promised Messiah as they remembered God's faithfulness.

After Jesus' resurrection, the early church grew through the preaching of the apostles and the work of the Holy Spirit. Paul, once a persecutor of Christians, became one of the most influential missionaries and writers of the New Testament. The church spread throughout the Roman Empire, teaching about Jesus as Lord and Savior.

After the apostles, early Christians faced new challenges to their faith. Church leaders gathered in councils to discuss and clarify important beliefs. These meetings helped create creeds, which are short statements of what Christians believe.

The Reformation was a movement that called the Church back to the authority of the Bible between AD 500-1500. Reformers like Martin Luther emphasized salvation by faith, inspired by Paul's letters such as Romans and Galatians. This era helped make the Bible accessible to more people, shaping Christian faith and practice.

From 1500-1900, Christians increasingly took Jesus' command to share the Gospel seriously, leading to a surge in missionary efforts around the world. Great revivals, like the Great Awakenings, also stirred many people to renew their faith and commitment to God. These movements helped spread Christianity to new lands and deepen faith in existing Christian communities.

The Church today faces many challenges, but God has given us His Word to guide us and strengthen our faith. We are called to stand firm in our beliefs and share the good news of Jesus with others. Even in difficult times, Christ remains the head of the Church, and His promises are true.

The Bible teaches that Jesus will return to Earth, bringing an end to this present world and establishing His eternal kingdom. This return will be a glorious event, marking the complete victory of God over sin and death. Believers can look forward to a new heaven and a new earth where God will dwell with His people forever.
